Nova: Scientific Seminar: FINANCIAL MATHEMATICS AND SUPERCOMPUTING

The scientific seminar, september 26 at CESGA, “Financial mathematics and supercomputing” is sponsored by the RES (Spanish Supercomputing Network) and organized by Appentra Solutions, CESGA (Supercomputing Center of Galicia), ITMATI (Technological Institute of Industrial mathematics) and UDC (University of A Coruña).

Improving the productivity, quality and sustainability of scientific software in the field of engineering and computational science (Computational Science and Engineering – CSE) is a challenge of growing importance in the field of supercomputing, particularly relevant due to the increasing complexity of computational models, the architecture of computers and the software projects needed in future exascale systems. It is of vital importance to create an ecosystem of methodologies, good practices, processes and tools that allow for the development of better scientific software for HPC.

The valuation of financial products and processes is based on the numerical simulation of the mathematical models that govern the operation thereof. Among others, Monte Carlo techniques, numerical resolution of differential equations and numerical optimization methods are used. The size of the financial portfolios, the increasing complexity of the models (stochastic volatility, early exercise, etc.) and the number of underlyings (in derivatives of types, for example) demand a large number of computation hours. The need for answers in real time or within a reasonable time frame often requires the use of the resources of high-performance computing systems, sometimes using very heterogeneous systems (CPUs, GPUs, etc.). For a long time, the RES has provided these resources to the research groups that need it. However, it is necessary to provide researchers with the necessary knowledge to efficiently take advantage of RES resources, taking into account the criteria of productivity, quality and sustainability of scientific software.

“Financial mathematics and supercomputing” is a seminar whose aim is to present experiences of researchers in the field of quantitative finance, in which they will share their own experiences using supercomputing, as well as the challenges they face in the development of quality numerical simulation programs allowing them to minimize the effort and cost of software development and maintenance, maximizing the results of their R&D projects.

Nova: CESGAHACK 3 will once again bring together 6 teams from around the world, aiming to accelerate their applications

The goal of this hackathon is to accelerate the execution of applications. If your development team has little or no experience of parallel programming, then CESGAHACK3 is for you.

During the week the event is structured to ensure that the majority of the time is spent working on your own code, with the assistance of expert mentors.

We will use Parallelware Trainer and Parallelware Analyzer to help you identify the parallel patterns in your code, and learn how to implement those patterns efficiently with OpenMP and/or OpenACC.

Our goal is to help you in doing more science by speeding up your application runtime and by spending less time coding.

Machine Learning: la máquina aprende. - Vigo, Octubre 18, 2018 -

En los últimos años, el interés de la industria y de la comunidad investigadora por las tecnologías asociadas al Aprendizaje Máquina o Machine Learning (ML) se ha incrementado notablemente. Diversos factores determinantes, como la disponibilidad de entornos computacionales cada vez más potentes, la irrupción de las tecnologías Big Data, la mejora de los algoritmos de aprendizaje y la aparición del Deep Learning o el acceso a un conjunto de datos cada vez mayor y con menor coste, han convertido esta tecnología en un referente en casi cualquier campo de conocimiento.

El uso de las tecnologías ML supuso un punto de inflexión en la sociedad con su presencia en una amplia gama de aplicaciones, como por ejemplo: sistemas de búsqueda, análisis de textos, análisis de redes sociales, reconocimiento de objetos y caras, procesado del AND, reconocimiento del habla, analítica de datos médicos, mejora y optimización de los sistemas de producción en la industria, aplicaciones de analítica para la inteligencia del negocio y un larguísimo etcétera. No obstante, y a pesar de todos sus beneficios para la sociedad y la industria, su potencial máximo está aún por explotar, por lo que tenemos por delante un futuro lleno de nuevos retos y oportunidades.

O CESGA organiza un curso sobre a Optimización e profiling de aplicacións usando ferramentas de Intel, o obxectivo xeral do curso é proporcionar ao alumno un adestramento básico no uso das ferramentas de Intel destinadas á depuración e optimización de código secuencial e paralelo. As ferramentas que se estudarán neste curso son: Intel Advisor, Intel Inspector, Intel VTune, e Intel Trace Analyzer and Collector, todas elas dispoñibles para os usuarios do CESGA dentro do Supercomputador Finisterrae II.

Celebrarase os días 5, 6 e 7 de xuño en horario de 9:00h a 14:00h, no CESGA

O CESGA organiza un curso sobre Optimización e profiling de aplicaciones HPC usando herramientas libres, é o obxectivo xeral do curso é proporcionar ao alumno un adestramento básico no uso das distintas ferramentas existentes no mundo do Software Libre destinadas á análise, depuración e optimización de código secuencial e paralelo.

Entre as ferramentas que se estudarán neste curso destacan as desenvolvidas no BSC (Barcelona Supercomputing Centre), Paraver, Extrae e Dimemas, ademais de ferramentas clásicas moi útiles para o profiling e a optimización como gprof ou callgrind/valgrind, todo iso sobre os compiladores GNU.

Celebrarase o 12, 13 e 14 de xuño en horario de 9:00h a 14:00h. en el CESGA.
